AAMFT Supervision

If you are interested in becoming a Clinical Member of The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, or an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, a placement at the McGill Domestic Violence Clinic offers you the opportunity to gain the clinical hours required to meet membership criteria. As well, you will be able to acquire the most up to date skills to help you in your work with couples and families. We will work with you both individually and as a team to make your experience as full and rewarding as possible.

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) is the professional association for the field of marriage and family therapy. It represents the professional interests of more than 23,000 marriage and family therapists throughout the United States, Canada and abroad. There are 5 Canadian divisions of AAMFT: British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec and Ontario. Founded in 1942, this international organization has been continuously involved with the problems, needs and changing patterns of couple and family relationships.

Members must meet rigorous standards for education and training and are held to the highest ethical standards of the profession. Associate and Student membership categories are available. McGill Violence Clinic supervisors can provide the supervision necessary for accreditation in AAMFT. AAMFT provides individuals with the tools and resources they need to succeed as marriage and family therapists.
