Dr. Tamer Boyaci joined McGill's Desautels Faculty of Management in 1998. He is a Professor of Operations Management and Desautels Faculty Scholar. He also served as the Associate Dean for Masters Programs and the Academic Director for the MBA Program during the years 2010-13.
Dr. Boyaci teaches core and electives classes related to Operations Management at the undergraduate, MBA and Executive levels. His most recent teaching responsibility is the Value Creation Module of the Integrated Core Program of the MBA Program. He also contributes to the Operations Excellence module of the McGill-HEC EMBA Program. Dr. Boyaci is a recipient of the Quebec MELS Teaching Chair Award (Bourse d’enseignement du Quebec) as well as Desautels Faculty of Management Distinguished Teaching Award at the graduate level.
Dr. Boyaci’s primary research interests can be broadly categorized as supply chain management. His research is wide in scope and highly cross-disciplinary, often cutting across operations, marketing, economics, finance and policy-making. His research addresses novel questions that have both scholarly and practical appeal, and have implications for field managers as well as policy makers (wherever appropriate). His most recent contributions in this domain investigate price-matching policies, private brands, risk management, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
Another major research interest of Dr. Boyaci links operations to sustainability. Specifically, he is active in the area of closed-loop supply chain management, which aims at capturing the remaining economical value in used, unsold, or obsolete products through remanufacturing, re-use or recycling operations. His latest works in this domain dwell on take-back legislation and sustainable product design and innovation. He is a Fellow of McGill’s Marcel Desautel Institute of Integrated Management (MDIIM) in the area of sustainability.
Dr. Boyaci’s scholarly work has appeared in the top international journals of his discipline, including Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, among others. He has secured more than $1Million funding for his research projects.
Dr. Boyaci is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS) and Groupe d'Études et de Recherches en Analyse des Décisions (GÉRAD).
