Rob Long is a seasoned senior executive with an extensive track record in private equity and structured debt. He brings over thirty years of investment experience and a wealth of middle market contacts to Webster Capital. Rob was an investor and member of our Advisory Board since 2006. Prior to joining Webster in 2011, Rob spent ten years building a successful senior and mezzanine debt and equity business for Allied Capital. When this portfolio was merged into Ares Capital in April 2010 Rob joined Ares as a Managing Director to ensure a smooth transition.
At Allied, Rob was a member of the Management Committee and Head of Asset Management, where he made over $2 billion in private middle market debt and equity investments. He is well known in the middle market community for creating innovative financing structures and launching and overseeing several successful middle market private capital funds, including a unique private debt fund with GE Capital which Rob helped structure and lead. His experience also includes forming and managing the deal origination efforts of Allied Capital, and leading the relationships with LP investors in Allied related funds. Rob provided a significant equity co-investment as well as all of the debt financing for our successful Comfort Keepers transaction, in addition to reviewing numerous prospective investments with our team.
Rob brings to Webster a wealth of direct investing experience in middle market equity and debt. He has served on investment committees that have made hundreds of commitments and reviewed thousands of individual transactions. His industry experience has been focused on the consumer, business services, transportation and retail sector. His buyout transactions include Callidus Capital, Healthy Pet, and Comfort Keepers, and his debt transactions include Insight Pharmaceuticals, Farley & Sather’s Candy Company, Community Education, Distant Lands, and Integrity Interactive. Through his relationships, Webster benefits from enhanced deal flow as well as a broad network of financing and diligence resources.
Earlier in his career he was a Partner at Montgomery Securities/Banc of America Securities, Head of Investment Banking and Merchant Banking for Nomura Securities in the Americas, and was a Managing Director at Credit Suisse First Boston, where he began his career and spent fourteen years in equities, high yield, and merchant banking. He is a graduate of McGill University and is a C.F.A.
