The Ian McLachlin Prizes for Entrepreneurship in Engineering
Two prizes have been endowed by Ian McLachlin, B. Eng. 1960, to encourage Engineering students to undertake courses in Entrepreneurial Studies. Engineering students with high academic standing, and are in their final year of studies are invited to present a short essay outlining an innovative concept that has a high potential for commercialization. Each of the four prizes is valued at $750. Students must be registered in a Management course offered under the auspices of The Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (as listed on the website). The submissions will be judged by a panel of independent Dobson Fellows, a highly regarded group whose members have made a significant contribution to entrepreneurship over a meaningful period of time. All submissions will be accompanied by a confidentiality agreement. The decision of the Dobson Fellows will be final, and will be passed on to the Faculty of Engineering which will award the actual prizes. All applications must be accompanied by a completed submission form and forwarded to the Dobson Centre. A Professor must attest that the engineering assumptions are valid in each submission. The deadline for submission is March 15th.

The Avmor Prize for Social Responsibility
Avi Morrow, founder and Chairman of Avmor, has funded an annual prize for the best study proposal submitted by an undergraduate student(s) in the Desautels Faculty of Management on behalf of a not-for-profit organization. The value is $1,250. Student(s) must be registered, and in good standing, in the Desautels Faculty of Management. They can be pursuing their course of study in any of their undergraduate years. Individuals or teams which qualify can apply. The benefiting organization must be a recognized not-for-profit organization, preferably with a charitable number which allows it to qualify for tax-deductible donations. A maximum two-page study proposal will consist of the project overview with clearly stated objectives. The submission must be accompanied by a letter signed by an appropriate officer, employee or board member of the benefiting organization which fully endorses the plans of the study and which undertakes to offer full co-operation to the student(s). The submission form and client authorization letter are available on-line at the Dobson Centre website. The submission with all necessary approvals must be received at the Dobson Centre in hard copy by October 15th. The Dobson Centre committee reviews the submissions and announces the winner by November 1st. The actual study is to be completed no later than March 15th at which time a final presentation will be made to the Dobson Centre and to the actual not-for-profit organization.
The Zeller Family Foundation Prizes for Entrepreneurship in the Desautels Faculty of Management
The Zeller Family Foundation has funded two annual prizes for the best entrepreneurial proposals submitted by an undergraduate student in the Desautels Faculty of Management. Submissions fall into one of two categories. The value is $750 each. Student must be registered, and in good standing, in the Desautels Faculty of Management in their final year, and must be enrolled in a management course offered under the auspices of the Dobson Centre. Only individuals who qualify can apply. A maximum two-page proposal will consist of the project overview with clearly stated objectives for a new entrepreneurial idea with potential for commercialization. Although this is not a formal business plan, there should be sufficient description of the overall market to place the project in a clear potentially commercial context. The submissions will be judged by a panel of independent Dobson Fellows, a highly regarded group whose members have made a significant contribution to entrepreneurship over a meaningful period of time. The submission form is available on-line at the Dobson Centre website. All applications must be accompanied by a completed submission form and forwarded to the Dobson Centre. A Professor must attest that the technical assumptions are valid in each submission. The deadline for submission is March 15th. The decision of the Dobson Fellows will be final. The Dobson Centre will award the actual prizes.
