I welcome your interest in the PhD program at the Desautels Faculty of Management. Every year, approximately 15 PhD students are admitted to our program and are offered four years of funding. Certain unique aspects make McGill a special place where to pursue a doctorate in management.
- The PhD program combines elements of European and US doctoral programs. Following European tradition, students are highly autonomous and follow individualized programs. Following US tradition, students are expected to take a well-designed complement of courses during their first two years.
- The Desautels PhD program participates in a joint doctoral program that brings together the four leading Montreal universities (HEC-Montreal, Concordia, UQAM, and McGill). As a result, students gain access to the rich doctoral offerings from other universities and are expected to include professors from other universities on their committees.
- The program has a strong culture of collaboration and interdisciplinarity. Students work closely with professors to produce scholarly contributions that are innovative and generative. Students also come together in a doctoral student association to provide support and community.
- We celebrate our location in Montreal, a city with a European feel, two languages, and with the highest concentration of university students in North America. Montreal was recently ranked best city in the world to attend university (EIU 2013).
We are proud of our record of placing students in the world’s leading academic institutions. If you are a bright, hardworking, independent and innovative thinker looking for a “vive la difference” program, then I urge you to apply to the McGill Desautels PhD program. I invite you to visit our website, contact our doctoral program office, attend our information session, and discuss your research interests with a favorite professor.
