Scholarships and awards

MBA students at the Desautels Faculty of Management have access to a wide variety of funding options, including merit-based scholarships and student loans.

In addition to the list below, we are in the process of raising additional scholarship funds. Please continue to check back regularly.

Fellowship and Entrance Awards

new  Desautels MBA Women Leadership Awards

Established in 2012 by the Desautels Faculty of Management to support outstanding women entering the McGill MBA program. The recipients of these awards will have a strong academic record and proven and/or demonstrated leadership qualities. These fellowships are awarded by the Desautels MBA Scholarships Committee.

Value: up to $20,000. Multiple awards available. Non-renewable
Criteria: academic excellence, proven and/or demonstrated leadership quality

new  Desautels Worldly MBA Fellowships - International

Established in 2012 by the Desautels Faculty of Management to outstanding International MBA students entering the program. Multiple awards are available for each of the following regions: Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and North America-USA. These fellowships are awarded by the Desautels MBA Scholarships Committee to International students entering the MBA program on the basis of international exposure, strong academic record, and demonstrated leadership skills.

Value: up to $20,000. Non-renewable

new  Desautels Worldly MBA Fellowships - Canada

Established in 2012 by the Desautels Faculty of Management to outstanding Canadian MBA students entering the program. Multiple fellowships are awarded by the Desautels MBA Scholarships Committee to Canadian students entering the MBA program on the basis of international exposure, strong academic record, and demonstrated leadership skills.

Value: up to $20,000. Non-renewable

new  Desautels MBA Leadership Fellowships - Quebec

Established in 2012 by the Desautels Faculty of Management to outstanding Quebec MBA students entering the program. Multiple fellowships are awarded by the Desautels MBA Scholarships Committee to Quebec students entering the MBA program on the basis of academic achievement and demonstrated leadership skills.

Value: up to $20,000. Non-renewable

new  Marcel A. Desautels MBA Fellowships 

Established in 2011 by Marcel A. Desautels, CM to support outstanding students entering the MBA program.  Awarded by the Masters Programs Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management to outstanding Canadian students on the basis of academic merit and leadership qualities.

Value: up to $10,000. Non-renewable
Criteria: Academic merit and leadership qualities

new  Paul Tellier MBA Fellowships 

Established by Paul Tellier for outstanding MBA students in the Desautels Faculty of Management.  Awarded by the Masters Programs Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management based on academic merit.

Value: up to $10,000. Non-renewable
Criteria: Academic merit

new  Huaqiao Resources Fellowships

Established in 2012 by Huaqiao Resources Ltd, to support outstanding graduate students in the MBA Program in the Desautels Faculty of Management.  Awarded by the Master’s Program Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management on the basis of academic merit.

Value:  up to $20,000
Criteria: Academic excellence

Alberta Cefis MBA Leadership Award

Established in 2011 by Alberta Cefis in order to support outstanding MBA students in the Desautels Faculty of Management. Awarded by the Desautels Scholarships Committee on the basis of academic merit and leadership.

Value: Range: Up to $5,000. Renewable
Criteria: Academic excellence, Leadership

John Chambers Best in the West Fellowship

Established in 2011 by John Chambers MBA'92, in order to support students in the MBA Program.  Awarded by the Master's Program Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management to outstanding MBA students from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba on the basis of academic merit.  Preference will be given to students with an academic background in math, science and/or engineering.

Value: up to $20,000. Non-renewable
Criteria: Academic achievement

Laurentian Bank of Canada MBA Leadership Award

Established in 2011 by the Laurentian Bank of Canada, to support outstanding MBA students who demonstrate strong leadership qualities in the Desautels Faculty of Management.  Awarded to full-time students by the Master’s Programs Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management with a preference to students from the Province of Quebec.

Value: $4,000. Non-renewable
Criteria: Outstanding leadership 

Rio Tinto – Richard Evans Graduate Fellowships

Awarded by the Desautels Scholarships Committee on the basis of academic merit to any Masters student in a management degree program that may be applicable to the mining and metals industry, and Ph.D. students pursuing studies directly related to mining and metallurgy, including industrial operations, operations and technology management, and sustainable development. Preference will be given to students with financial needs, those from developing countries and those who have lived and/or worked in remote regions. Those selected should embody the leadership values of personal responsibility, integrity, accountability and mutual respect.

Value: Range: up to $20,000. Non-renewable
Criteria: Academic achievement and potential. Outstanding leadership. Financial need.

Scotiabank Fellowships

Established in 2010 by Scotiabank, in order to support outstanding MBA students in the Desautels Faculty of Management. Awarded by the Desautels Scholarships Committee on the basis of academic merit. Preference will be given to students from Latin America and the Caribbean and those wanting to study on exchange in those regions.

Value: Range: Up to $5,000. Renewable
Criteria: Academic excellence

Reckziegel Family Leadership Award

Established in 2011 by David Reckziegel and his family, in order to support outstanding MBA students in the Desautels Faculty of Management. Awarded by the Desautels Scholarships Committee on the basis of academic merit.

Value: Range: Up to $10,000. Renewable
Criteria: Academic excellence

Kelly Family MBA Leadership Award

Established in 2010 by Brian Kelly, MBA ‘68, for a graduate student who demonstrates strong leadership qualities and who is enrolled in the MBA program in the Desautels Faculty of Management. Awarded by the Master’s Programs Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management.

Value: Range: Up to $5,000. Renewable
Criteria: Strong leadership qualities

eXplorance MBA Leadership Award

Established in 2010 by Samer Bekai-Saab, BEng ’93, MBA ‘96, for a graduate student who demonstrates strong leadership qualities and who is enrolled in the MBA program in the Desautels Faculty of Management. Awarded by the Master’s Programs Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management.

Value: Range: Up to $10,000. Renewable
Criteria: Strong leadership qualities

Desautels MBA Entrance Awards

These merit-based awards are granted upon acceptance to the program, you need not apply separately.

These awards are renewable providing you maintain good academic standing in your MBA studies.

Value: Range: $3,000 to 1/2 tuition
Criteria: Academic performance and leadership ability regardless of nationality

Timothy Thompson Fellowship

Established in 2010 by Timothy Thompson, MBA '90, in order to support outstanding students entering the MBA Program. Awarded by the Master’s Programs Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management to outstanding Canadian MBA students on the basis of academic merit and demonstrated community involvement and leadership.

Value: up to $10,000, non-renewable
Criteria: Academic excellence, leadership and community involvement

Linda and Robert J. Goldberger MBA Fellowship

Established in 2009 by Linda H. Goldberger, BSW ‘78 and Robert J. Goldberger, MBA '82, in order to support students entering the MBA Program. Awarded by the Master’s Programs Office of the Desautels Faculty of Management to outstanding Canadian MBA students on the basis of academic merit.

Value: up to $10,000, non-renewable
Criteria: Academic excellence

Edward Ballon Graduate Award in Management

Established in 1998 by the John Dobson Foundation in honor of Edward M. Ballon (B.A 1947) a distinguished graduate who, while a student at McGill, was Captain of the Track team, President of the Students' Society of the McGill University and President of the Students' Athletic Council. He later became President of the McGill Graduates Society and a member of the Board of Governors of the University.

Awarded by the Desautels Scholarships Committee to a full-time student entering the MBA program on the basis of high academic standing, demonstrated leadership skills through involvement in extra curricular activities and participation in a competitive sport. Candidates must be Canadian citizens. To apply applicants must submit a one-page statement detailing their involvement in extra curricular activities and participation in a competitive sport. The statement must be submitted at the time of application to the program.

Value: Range: $2,000 - $2,500, non-renewable
Criteria:Canadian citizen, academic excellence, participation in competitive sport (full-time students only)

Pilarczyk Fellowship

First awarded in 1997, this scholarship will be awarded every second year. The purpose of this award is to create a distinguished international fellowship that will enable outstanding students from Poland to pursue a two year Masters of Business Administration at McGill Desautels Faculty of Management. The Fellowship is intended to be a comprehensive award covering the principal expenses that such students will incur while in Canada. Successful candidates must plan to return to Poland and participate in its economic life.

Value: $27,000 renewable, awarded every second year
Criteria: Polish citizens and commitment to work in Poland

Alvin J. Walker Graduate Award

Established by the estate of the late Alvin J. Walker, this award is presented by the Desautels Faculty of Management MBA Scholarships Committee to a full time student entering the MBA program who demonstrates academic excellence.

Value: up to $3,000, non-renewable
Criteria: Academic performance (full-time students only)

Fondation Pierre Arbour

The Board of Directors of the newly established foundation is pleased to announce the launching of activities of this charitable organization whose mission consists in helping students to pursue advanced studies at the Master's and Doctorate levels. The Foundation was created on December 30th 2005 thanks to the donation of the assets of Alkebec Inc., an investment firm owned by Pierre Arbour. Deserving students in financial need will be selected for academic studies susceptible to promoting Quebec’s economic growth in the following disciplines: business administration (MBA), engineering and computer science.

Eligibility: Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants with permanent residency in Quebec pursuing their MBA on a full time basis at a Quebec university. Minimum 75% (or equivalent) overall average in their undergraduate degree. Applicants cannot be holders of a Masters degree prior to commencing their MBA studies.

Value: $8,000, renewable, 2 awards
Criteria: Academic performance, leadership, financial need, aptitude for research/analytical thinking (full-time students only)

H.E. Herschorn Graduate Award

Established in 1965, awarded by the Desautels Faculty of Management MBA Scholarships Committee to a full time student entering the MBA program on the basis of academic merit.

Value: up to $4,800, non-renewable
Criteria: Academic excellence (full-time students only)

Dr Peter Briant Award

Established by Seymour Schulich in memory of Professor Peter Briant, a teacher and mentor to many in the Desautels Faculty of Management. Awarded to Canadian students in the first year of the full time MBA program by the Desautels Faculty of Management. This award will be granted on the basis of entrepreneurial experience, potential, general scholastic ability and financial need as assessed by the Student Aid Office.

Value: Range: $3,500 - $4,000
Criteria: Canadians with entrepreneurial experience, potential scholastic ability, financial need (full-time students only)

Guizzetti Gendron MBA Leadership Award

Established in 2010 by Liana Guizzetti and Louis Gendron, both MBA 1988. Awarded by the Desautels Faculty of Management MBA Scholarships Committee to a graduate student enrolled in the MBA program in the Desautels Faculty of Management who demonstrates strong leadership qualities. Preference will be given to students from Quebec.

Value: Up to $14,000, non-renewable. 1 to 2 awards
Criteria: Strong leadership qualities

Fellowships and Awards for MBA II Students

The following are available to Desautels MBA students entering or in their second year:

Donald E. Armstrong Award

This award was established in 1996 by Seymour Schulich and Lawrence Bloomberg in honour of Donald E. Armstrong, founding Director of the MBA program. It will be awarded annually by the Desautels Faculty of Management Scholarship Committee to a second year student with high academic standing, who has proven leadership skills and active involvement in the community.

Value: $3,000
Criteria: High academic standing, proven leadership skills, active involvement in the community

Sheila Wellington BMO Financial Group Award

Established by the Bank of Montreal. This award will be granted to a full time student in the second year of the MBA program specializing in Finance.

Value: $6,000, 2 awards
Criteria: Second year student, specializing in finance. High academic standing, proven leadership skills, participation in extracurricular university activities and/or community involvement. Preference given to female applicants (full-time students only)

Roger C. Bennett Prize in Marketing

Established in 1999 with the support of friends and family of the late Roger C. Bennett, distinguished Professor of Marketing (Desautels Faculty of Management), who had a zest for life. Awarded by the Desautels Faculty of Management Scholarship Committee to a graduating MBA student who has demonstrated academic achievement and community involvement.

Value: $1,250
Criteria: Demonstrated academic achievement and community involvement

MBA - Class of ’81 Prize

Established in 2008 by the MBA Class of ’81. Awarded by the Desautels Faculty of Management MBA Scholarships Committee to a student in the MBA program whose academic record is judged to be outstanding and who has demonstrated leadership qualities among those who graduate during the academic year.

Value: $2,500
Criteria: Academic excellence, outstanding leadership
