India Pulse Food Innovation Competition

Pulse Competition Poster

The McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics (MCCHE) and the India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA) were proud to host a national food innovation competition for pulses. The objective of this competition was to create an innovative pulse-containing snack or convenience food (‘ready to eat’ or ‘ready to cook’), that showcases at least one pulse, and helps build awareness of the UN-declared International Year of Pulses (IYP) in 2016.

On the occasion of the IYP in 2016, food innovation competitions are being hosted around the world to harness the creative power of individuals, professions and organizations. Youth talents in culinary and food science and technology colleges are invited to compete in cooperative spirits throughout the country. This competition offers students the opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial spirits, aspirations and talents through an exciting cooking competition for innovative pulse-based foods and new recipes with pulses.

This work was carried out with the aid of a grant from the International Development Research Centre, Ottawa, Canada. We would also like to thank the Government of Saskatchewan for their support.
