Why the IMHL? Let us introduce you to what Dr. Theodore Marmor of Yale University recently shared about the IMHL (December 2011) - Professor Marmor teaches in the US and many other countries:
"I have taught for about a decade in the Harvard Kennedy School program for senior fellows from the Federal Government - as well as foreign governments. I have taught at the executive program in health policy and management at Columbia's School of Public Health, and given lots of talks around the world, and organized with Antonia Maioni the 'module' on navigating the system.
So, where does that leave me? The McGill University International Masters for Health Leadership (IMHL) is better structured to bring the participants to a realistic view of management and decision-making than any other with which I have been associated. What makes it special is the attention to the very different kinds of knowledge and understanding that are important, indeed crucial, to cope with the challenges of managing and leading a group or an institution.
The nature of the program is cross-disciplinary, cross-border, and cross-experience with an emphasis on comparative perspectives from people with different starting points. The five mindsets are sensibly distinguished and attended to rather than privileging one or another approach, whether psychological, marketing, political or whatever. I have come back again and again because I believe this is serious education, not trying to milk the cash cow of executive education.
It would be enormously helpful if more American health figures understood the Canadian as well as a worldly experience, had the interactive form of teaching and learning the program offers and escaped the madness of contemporary political dialogue." - Theodore Marmor

The IMHL begins with the belief that the greatest hope for population health improvement lies in a deep understanding of how the entire health field works, coupled with a sophisticated appreciation of its management. The program's unique and innovative educational approach uses the classroom as a thoughtful and ongoing international forum of "friendly consultants". It is the only gathering of this kind worldwide where participants address and advance key issues in health over a two-year period.

“So far, more than 70 participants from 16 countries have joined the IMHL of McGill University, and there is little question that the program has had an impact on its graduates, their organizations and communities, and even their countries.” - Diane Marie Plante, Director
