Target 3Q Income Down by Half; Stung by Costs of Canada Expansion

Target's stock dropped 3.46 percent today after the retailer reported third-quarter net income dropped by nearly half.

... "The retail price in Canada is much higher, compared to the retail price in the U.S.," said Minha Hwang, a management professor at McGill University in Montreal. "The Canadian price is about 20 percent higher compared to the U.S. price."

Premium Drives Dating, Music Engagement, Revs

At the Mapping Mobile Conference at New York University’s Stern School of Business last week, panelists spoke about everything from consumer research to dating sites. One dominant takeaway is that people who are willing to pay for service to reduce advertising will generate a bigger pool of people willing to pay premium. Montreal Case Competition Teaches Chemistry & MBA Students Sustainability for the Real World

Last Fall, the Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management (MDIIM) and the McGill Department of Chemistry in Montreal collaborated to offer MBA and Chemistry Students the opportunity to participate in a unique two-day event. The case competition created opportunities to build a network of potential collaborators in business and chemistry.

McGill Team wins Japan MBA Case Competition

On November 17, McGill MBA Japan students Deb Tripathy, Lyal Clough, Satishi Juriani, and Taka Ishikawa took 1st place at the inaugural Japan MBA Case Competition (JMBACC). 12 teams from universities across Japan participated at this competition held in Tokyo.

Mining and the MBA – B-School Students Work with Iron Ore Company of Canada Mines

45 MBA students from the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, Canada, have engaged in a partnership with the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), where they will play the role of consultants to eight on-going projects. The students were recently taken on a field trip to visit Labrador City and the mines, located in Canada’s Far North. During their trip they met with President and CEO of IOC, Zoe Yujnovich, who is co-teaching their CEO Insights Class with Professor Karl Moore on the Desautels MBA program.

For Two Dancers, Business School Is Their Next Act

Just over a year ago, when Antonios Bougiouris suffered a dance-related injury that required hip surgery to repair, he figured his days as a ballet dancer where numbered.
... The answer lay in McGill University’s MBA program at the Desautels Faculty of Management, where Mr. Bougiouris is enrolled as a student in the graduating class of 2015.

Amazon Competes Against Canadian Supermarkets by Entering Grocery Business

Online retailer Amazon is taking on supermarkets by delivering food directly to Canadians’ doorsteps.

The retail giant, which built its business selling books and entertainment through the mail, launched its new grocery category Thursday, in what’s certain to be an intensifying battle between grocers.

Amazon says the initial selection includes 15,000 non-perishable grocery products, like coffee, cereal and baby food, from a variety of brands such as Campbell, Nestle, Pepsi, and Kellogg.
