Renmin University Dean and Class Visit Desautels

Published: 16 November 2010

In early November the McGill Executive Institute hosted 15 Chinese participants from Renmin University's CMPM program.  Modeled after the International Masters Program in Practicing Management (IMPM), the CMPM participants were here to participate in the Action Mindset Module.  There were a number of learning objectives including:

  1. To understand and apply the central ideas of the two dominant schools of strategy; deliberate and emergent strategy as a foundation to examine change.
  2. To grasp the importance and role of building positive emotions within the workplace to achieve successful change.
  3. To work with frameworks and theories that can be applied when leading a change project within an organization.

To gain further insights on frameworks, company visits to Bombardier and CAE were undertaken. The class was given the opportunity to interact with Bob Brown, former CEO of both of these companies. In addition to acquire hands-on change experience participants were part of an intensive simulation exercise where the winners were rewarded for making the right decisions at the opportune time.

Each member of the class left with a personal action plan for implementing changes upon their returning to their organization.
