Desautels has no future plans to open a campus in India

Indian officials will soon be permitting foreign universities to build campuses on its land — a potential impediment for Canadian schools looking to recruit international students. The move by India is an attempt to address what some fear will be a lack of qualified graduates in the country, due in part to the thousands of students who leave the to study abroad each year. Some Canadian and Indian institutions have partnership agreements and exchange programs. “We’re already involved in India to some extent through the Indian Institute of Management,” said Morton Mendelson, deputy provost at McGill University. “So we have no plans to open a campus in India. It would be an incredible expense for us to open there.”
