Connectivity is more than a smartphone and online access


A recent article in Graphic Arts makes the point that the word “connectivity” brings to mind images of smartphones and online transactions, but that according to Desautels Professor Henry Mintzberg, net-based communications do a poor job of building real interpersonal relationships.

Modern communications technologies and social media definitely have value as networking vehicles, but there are nuances in people’s voices, expressions, and body language that emoticons and text just can’t reveal.

When it comes to getting a feel for a person’s mood or intentions, you can’t beat face-to-face communication, a handshake, or even a phone call.
