Bloomberg Prize winner motivates kids and families towards better health

Published: 24 February 2017

The Bloomberg Manulife Prize for the Promotion of Active Health is a $50,000 award for research that can influence North Americans’ well-being. It is partially administered by the Desautels Faculty of Management.

Stanford Paediatric Medicine Professor Thomas Robinson is the recipient of the 2016 prize. His efforts to find solutions for childhood obesity looks at the development of classes and activities where the health benefits are almost a side-effect. This could be a dance class where kids show up for the fun rather than the lowered LDL cholesterol, or a conservation course where vegetarianism is presented as an eco choice rather than a healthful one.
