The McGill PhD in Management aims to attract individuals who possess a strong academic background, personal initiative, and the potential to become excellent researchers. Applicants are assessed according to their past academic record, evaluations by former professors or supervisors, performance on standard graduate examinations, relevant work experience and the fit between their interests and the Faculty's focus and objectives.
The PhD Program in Management administers several doctoral level fellowships/awards. Candidates that have been accepted and have registered in the doctoral program are eligible to apply for them. These fellowships/awards are advertised in the Fall and Winter terms by the PhD Program Office. The value of these fellowships/awards vary from year to year.
Before entering the program, students must select an area of specialization from one of the following or from a combination thereof:
If you are an international student, the PhD Program will pay the international portion of your university tuition fees for the four semesters of minimum residency (or up to a maximum of six semesters), worth approximately $12,000 CAD per year (based on 2013/2014 tuition fees and subject to change). Students are responsible for the Quebec rate of the tuition fees, which is approximately $3,800 CAD per year (based on 2013/2014 tuition fees and subject to change). Please note that medical/dental insurance is additional, as well as student services.
I welcome your interest in the PhD program at the Desautels Faculty of Management. Every year, approximately 15 PhD students are admitted to our program and are offered four years of funding.
The PhD Program in Management at McGill is offered jointly with the three other Montreal universities: Concordia University, École des Hautes Études Commerciales (affiliated with Université de Montréal), and Université du Québec à Montréal. The joint nature of the program gives doctoral students access to over 250 professors qualified to direct doctoral research among the four universities, representing a tremendous variety of research approaches and interests.
The PhD in Management Program offers only Fall (September) admission of the same calendar year in which admission is sought. The deadline of January 15 is for all applicants (Canadian and international). Very important: Do not apply to start the program in winter or summer - applications for winter or summer will be cancelled and the application fee will NOT be refunded.
Students may track the status of the application by going to the uApply website. From this site you may view which documents were successfully uploade, which documents remain outstanding, when the PhD Program Committee has recommended admission to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office (GPSO) and when a final decision has been made by GPSO. In addition, you can update your address on this site so that the University always has your current coordinates.
