The BCom Mentoring Program connects undergraduate students in their U2 and U3 years at the Desautels Faculty of Management to Mentors in industry who are themselves McGill Alumni (BCom 2003-2008).
The Program provides students with a connection to the real world of Management to gain insight into their chosen field, to develop their professional skill set and networking abilities and to reach their career goals.
Welcome to the Desautels Faculty of Management’s Accounting discipline website. This website is an introduction to our discipline, our members, and our teaching and research programs.
Comprised of scholars at various levels – senior and junior faculty as well as doctoral students – the members of the Accounting discipline represent a wide range of interests and skills. Our faculty come from distinguished institutions such as UC Berkeley, Northwestern University, and the University of Waterloo, and publish in top peer-reviewed accounting journals such as The Accounting Review,The Journal of Accounting and Economics, The Journal of Accounting Research, and more.
Located in the Soutar Career Centre, Career Services at the Desautels Faculty of Management is dedicated to helping students develop their career management skills and explore career paths that enable them to ultimately achieve their career goals. Innovative programs, workshops and speaker series coupled with an integrated learning approach prepare our students and give them the skills to make an impact in their careers throughout their lifetime.
These days, when Jesper Hornberg goes to work he's likely to be stepping into a mud hut in Kenya, checking on a solar lamp. He's the founder of an NGO called Givewatts, which is trying to reduce dependence on kerosene lamps. Rather than having to work in the poor light given off by kerosene, children whose families have his lamps can now see well enough to do their homework. In some cases, their school test scores have increased by 50%.
Throughout the last two decades, a wave of studies criticizing current curricula have swept through the field of management, leading to the discussion of widespread reforms throughout educational institutions. Specifically, many criticized the lack of “functionally integrated curricula in higher education,” one that is inclusive of social and ecological factors in business practices.
