Current Research: 

My general research interests lie in the area of corporate governance, asset securitization, earnings management and capital market. My current research focuses on two themes: (i) examining the impact of corporate governance mechanism on the decision-making by managers and capital market investors, and (ii) the potential earnings management in some special accounting treatments, such as accounting for asset securitization.

Biography: 

Sanjian(Bill) received his Ph.D. in accounting from University of California, Irvine, and his master’s degree in business administration from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. His research interests include financial accounting, auditing, bond credit rating, credit derivative pricing, earnings management, the 2007-2009 credit crisis, and financial distress. He is an expert on MBS and its relevant accounting issues. His research appears in Review of Accounting Studies, Accounting Horizons, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of International Financial Management & Accounting, Journal of Financial Stability, etc. He was an American Accounting Association Doctoral Consortium Fellow in 2005 and a Paul Merage School of Business Fellow at the University of California, Irvine, from 2000 to 2004. Bill is a member of the American Accounting Association, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and the Canadian Academic Accounting Association. He served as the referee of Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Financial Economics, Journal of Contemporary Accounting & Economics, and Review of Accounting and Finance, etc. He also served as a SSHRC grant reviewer in the past.

In 2013, he was interviewed by Economia on topics related to bank regulation and the 2007-2009 credit crisis.
