If he really needs to, Riverside secondary school graduate Matthew Hunter can take solace in the old truism that no one is perfect. But chances are, after finishing Grade 12 with a 99.57 per cent average, the 17-year-old scholar won't need a lot of comforting. He has chosen to study business when he attends McGill University in Montreal in September, just to keep his options open.

Two McGill students help Haitian artists by featuring their work on unique, locally-made T-shirts

Haiti and its people left an indelible mark on Matt Brightman and Martin Weiss. Now, they're trying to do something life-changing in return. The two McGill University students have started a business, Moral Fibers, that features the work of Haitian artists on unique, limited-run T-shirts sold online at their website (www.moralfibers.co).

The Dobson Cup is an annual opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to showcase their business ideas and not-for-profit startups. It is hosted by the Dobson Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the Desautels Faculty of Management. Participants whose concepts demonstrate the most innovation, viability and growth potential are awarded over $15,000 in prize money.

Shatner's salute to The Captains

Shatner (BCom'52) recently received an honorary doctorate from McGill University. Last month he was recognized at the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards. And last year, he was honoured at the Banff World Media Festival. "What isn't well known is that Montreal made a terrible mistake on my birth certificate," he says with a chuckle on the phone from Los Angeles.

Capt. Kirk now Dr. Shatner

Iconic actor William Shatner (BCom’52) beamed down long enough Thursday to get an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, McGill University - and luckily no Klingons showed up to spoil the fun. True to form, Shatner then announced at a news conference he now wants to be addressed as "Dr. William Shatner."
