Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies Henry Mintzberg has been awarded this year's Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prize in the Social Sciences and Humanities for his outstanding lifetime and ongoing contribution to the cultural and intellectual life of Canada.
On April 11, Professor Henry Mintzberg was awarded the 2006 Prix Gérard-Parizeau. Created in 2000 by the Fonds Gérard-Parizeau, the prize is awarded to a professor or researcher for the exceptional merit of his research work in finance, economics or history. Professor Mintzberg was nominated for his outstanding, insightful research that has deepened the understanding of managing all types of organizations -- business, governmental and voluntary, large and small, local and international; his exploration of the nature of managerial work across sectors and across the world; and his passion for developing reflective managers who learn from themselves and each other.

Some investors seem to be taking advantage of a loophole in financial regulations to cast shareholder votes that are far out of proportion to the number of shares they actually own, suggests a new academic study, "Vote Trading and Information Aggregation." The study, by finance professors Susan Christoffersen of McGill University in Montreal, Christopher Geczy and David Musto of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Adam Reed of the University of North Carolina, has been circulating in academic circles for several months.
