There’s Ellen. She makes daily rounds to your coworkers’ offices, chatting up a storm while the sound of her laughter fills the hallway. She’s the morning shot of espresso we all need without the bitter aftertaste.

There’s Ian. Nothing against the guy, but you barely see him. He’s content to spend the majority of the workday in his office. Although he doesn’t often voice his opinion, when he does it’s easily the most enlightening comment of the meeting.

Road to Rio: Montreal fencer Joseph Polossifakis carves path to Olympics

Joseph Polossifakis is going to the Olympics, but the road to Rio de Janeiro has been anything but smooth for the 25-year-old Montreal sabre fencer.

Polossifakis won a gold medal at the Pan-American championships in 2012, but didn’t commit to a full-time training program until June 2014 after graduating from McGill University with a commerce degree. He had 10 months to prepare for the year-long Olympic qualifying schedule, which began in April 2015, but his plan suffered a setback during his first training camp.

MLJ: Karl Moore Interview

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau is moving ahead with plans for a proposed  pipeline to carry crude from Western Canada to Quebec and New Brunswick that would reduce the reliance on shipping oil by rail.  We talk with McGill University Business Professor Karl Moore about that project and Trudeau's recent visit to Washington.  Moore also talks about Canadian political leaders bailing out aerospace and rail manufacturer Bombardier and the closing of Target stores in Canada.

Online Course Inspires Students to Create the First School in an Iraqi Refugee Camp near Dohuk

Four students have set up a school in a refugee camp near the Iraqi city of Dohuk, the first of its kind within this camp. Having met through an online course run by the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University in Canada, the students from Morocco – the world’s first online course specifically designed for group learning (also known as GROOC) –  the students from Morocco, the UK, Iraq and Canada established the Heart ELT (English Language Teaching) School.

Boy Scouts will honor Buddy Stemple with 2016 Service Award

The 28th Annual Distinguished Community Service Award Dinner is scheduled for Monday, May 2nd, 2016 at 6:30 PM at the Jackson County Armed Forces Reserve Center (Armory) in Millwood.

The proceeds from this dinner go to the Little Kanawha District of the Allohak Council BSA for activities in the District, which includes the Scouting units of Jackson, Roane, Calhoun, and Wirt Counties.

Entertainment for the evening will be Major General James A. Hoyer, Adjutant General of West Virginia Joint Forces Headquarters – West Virginia.
