BCom students awarded Killam Fellowships

Desautels BCom students, Jérérmie Drouillard and Brian Luong have been selected to receive Killam Fellowship Awards. Jérérmie will be spending the Winter 2012 term at Arizona State University, WP Carey School of Business. Brian will spend the Fall term at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.

In February of this year, I was part of the Desautels Faculty of Management’s Hot Economic Cities of the World tour. I went to India for 10 days with 29 McGill undergrads and MBA students. In New Delhi, it took us more than 15 minutes to merely cross the road to our hotel, as an astonishing variety of traffic flowed, clattered and bleated its way by us. –Article by Karl Moore

U of G student helps build community and get rid of clutter through an app

The Next 36 splits the students into groups of four, provides each group with $50,000 in seed capital to put toward their mobile venture, gives 180 hours of instruction and pairs each group with a successful business leader. Johnson teamed up with Eran Henig from the University of Toronto, Gideon Hayden (BCom’11) from McGill University and Ronen Benin from the University of Western.

Local family's "Marathon of Health" leaves Ottawa

Sunday was declared "Marathon of Health Day" in Ottawa as a local family continues their fundraising run across the continent. The Chicoine family from Wakefield reached the city on Friday and made an appearance at City Hall Sunday. Their "Marathon of Health" has taken them from a May start in Vancouver to the nation's capital to promote what they call ‘well-care" and children's fitness.

He’s in no hurry to boldly go anywhere

Ordinarily, a cemetery is the last place you’d expect to find William Shatner. The Montreal-born former Stratford spear-carrier, whose first series role was as Ranger Bob on The Canadian Howdy Doody Show, has recently earned stars on the both the Hollywood and Toronto walks of fame, an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, McGill University, and a Governor General’s Award.

Canadian universities join global race to spark innovation

At McGill University, the Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies imitated the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by starting an annual business plan competition three years ago – the Dobson Cup, now worth $50,000 – as a way of “trawling for entrepreneurs” across all disciplines.

Benefit roast honours 'irresistible' volunteer

More than 400 people attended a benefit roast honouring Marcel Côté. Richard Pound(BCom'62, BCL'67 & LLD'09), a partner at the law firm Stikeman Elliott, former chancellor of McGill University and a former vice-president of the International Olympic Committee, replaced Côté as chairman at the foundation's annual general meeting.
