Business Schools Find Own Way To Remember Lessons Of War

On the eleventh day of November, people around the world will again honour those who have served in the armed forces through ceremonies such as Veterans Day in the US and Remembrance Day in the UK. Those of us fortunate to have not experienced battle will doubtless give thanks because, as the Civil War general, William T. Sherman succinctly put it, “War is all hell.” But no matter how terrible war has been and continues to be, philosophers, social scientists and, of course, business school academics have been able to extract valuable lessons from it.

New building to give Sheridan room to grow

College degree programs in business are proving popular with students, with one Ontario institution expanding its footprint to meet demand.

Sheridan College has announced plans for a 220,000-square-foot building to open in fall 2016 at its Mississauga campus, named for the municipality’s long-serving and just-retired mayor Hazel McCallion. The new building will house an expanded business faculty and other disciplines.

New analytics software breaks down numbers behind figure skating performances

Craig Buntin sits with his laptop overlooking the rink at Prospera Place and with a few taps on his keyboard pulls up a video and graphic of three-time world champion Patrick Chan.

... He initially searched for a separation from figure skating, and created TeaBean, a coffee and tea company based in Montreal which he eventually sold. He applied to the MBA program at McGill University, and became the first person accepted into the program without an undergraduate degree.

A recent dispute over “country of origin labelling” for meat products underscores the fact that Canada and the U.S. still have their share of trade disputes.
