Today is start of the Montreal Canadiens vs the New York Rangers series to decide which team goes on to the Stanley Cup final. This is a big deal in Montreal – we are a hockey mad city! It was last in 1993 that we had a cup grace our town. In this blog post I am delighted to speak with Pierre Boivin who spent 11 years as the CEO of the Montreal Canadiens and is now CEO of Claridge INC., the Bronfman Family office here in Montreal.

Slowing Down a Faster Game - Lessons from the Montreal Canadiens On How To Win

When you go from the minors to the big leagues the game really speeds up. Athletes often mention this with a sense of awe in their voice. Partly it is that they are playing with and against the “greats” of the game; they can’t believe they are on the ice with Martin St. Louis and PK. Partly it is that the game is simply and noticeably faster. I play beer league hockey and when I go to a Canadiens game I am always amazed at how much faster they are on the ice.

So two decades later, when the 43-year-old started thinking about boosting her qualifications to embark on her next career step, she felt that the most obvious choice — an MBA — would be like going over old ground.

... With that in mind, she decided on an international master's in practising management, an alternative to an MBA that is taught across five sites - at Lancaster University in the UK, but also at business schools in India, China, Brazil and Canada.
