Admission

Candidates who hold a Bachelor of Commerce degree, major/honours in accounting from a recognized Canadian university may be considered for direct admission into the Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy program. Entry into the Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy requires a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Meeting the minimum CGPA does not necessarily guarantee you entry into the CA program.

Applications:

ON-LINE applications are preferred by the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies office. Paper applications may be obtained from the CA Office and will only be accepted if you are unable to apply on-line.

The application fee of $100 Canadian is submitted with the application. To apply on-line, please click here. This will bring you to the McGill Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies online application site for programs in the Desautels Faculty of Management.

Application deadlines for Summer Admission:

  • November 15, for Early Admission (McGill B.Com graduating prior or in February)
  • February 1, for Canadian & Permanent residents
  • December 15 for International Students**:

** Please note that International Students must apply earlier than Canadian residents. Non-Canadian applicants who intend to study in Quebec must apply to two levels of government. The first is Immigration Quebec, which issues the Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec (C.A.Q.). The second is the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, which issues the Student Authorization. Depending on which part of the world you are applying from, you could require as much as six months to complete the process. You should, therefore, start your application as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance from the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. However, it is advisable that students contact the Canadian Embassy at least one year prior to program starting date as some countries require students to pass a medical examination.

In addition, International Students are required to be full-time students. Full-time students are required to take 12 credits of courses per term. Since the C.A. program is a part-time program, it will be necessary for International Students** to register in courses extra to the program, with permission of the Program Office.
