Newly accepted students

Congratulations and welcome to the McGill Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy (CA) Program. Chartered Accountants play leadership roles in public practice, business, industry, government and education. We hope you will find your program both challenging and rewarding.

Accepting Your Offer of Admission

Students admitted to the CA Program are required to submit a Registration Deposit Fee of $250 Canadian (Visa or Master Card) when confirming acceptance on MINERVA. This fee is applied towards tuition fees, and is non-refundable.

Deadline for notification of acceptance and Registration Fee Deposit ($250) is one minute before:

Summer term: April 1, or date stated on conditional letter of acceptance

Deferred Admission:

The Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies discourages students from deferring their admission. Should you wish to do so, do not confirm your acceptance on Minerva. You should contact the CA Office for further information.

A deferral of admission may be considered in exceptional cases upon evidence of extenuating circumstances for one year only.

A Deferral Request Form (available from the CA Office) must be submitted to the Director of the CA Program, along with a Confirmation Deposit Fee of $500 Canadian (certified cheque or money order only - no personal cheques will be accepted) to secure a place for the following year/term. After the request is processed on Minerva, the applicant will be required to confirm acceptance on Minerva for the (deferred) term.

The deadline for the Deferral Request Form and Confirmation Deposit Fee must also be submitted by the above deadline dates for the Registration Fee Deposit. This fee is non-refundable.

Any applicant who fails to confirm on Minerva by the date specified in the acceptance letter will forfeit their space in the program, and will be required to re-apply.

Registering for a second diploma

If you are planning on registering for another Diploma Program or any other program at the same time that you are in the Diploma in Public Accountancy program, you must receive permission from the CA Office first. If you receive permission from the CA Office to register for another program at the same time, you would then be required to obtain permission from the other program as well. Please keep in mind that even though the CA Program is a part-time program, you are required to give it a full-time commitment.

Professional Education Program

All universities in Quebec have been offering the Professional Education Program (PEP) of the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec since 1998. The Bureau of the Ordre approved the general framework, the content, and the financing terms and conditions of the program. The Ordre, in cooperation with practitioners and academics, also developed educational material for the program.

As part of the PEP, candidates simulate "engagements" during which they play a variety of roles including controllers, entrepreneur, manager, tax consultant, trustee and auditor. The program focuses on increasing and integrating specific knowledge and applying it in problem-solving situations. In conjunction with universities and practitioners, the Ordre developed this new program to reflect the profession's versatility and the strategic nature of the engagements entrusted to CAs in business and in CA firms.

The PEP registration form must be completed, signed and SENT to the Ordre AS SOON AS you begin the first term of the Professional Education Program (PEP), i.e. the Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy. This will give you the right to access the educational material and the Securexam software.

For fees and registration information, please see the OCAQ site.
