About The Brazil Study Abroad Program

This May, the Desautels Faculty of Management will offer two intensive courses: Topics in Marketing: Global Branding (MRKT 434 /MRKT 691), and Cross-cultural Management (ORGB 380C/ORGB 685C)

These courses are conducted in conjunction with ESPM University of Brazil and represent 6 credits over a one-month period.

The first two weeks of classes are conducted in the Bronfman Building at McGill University. In this phase of the program McGill registered students are joined by 15-25 ESPM students from Brazil. This provides a unique learning environment for both classes. Interactions among the different cultures - with emphasis on Canadian/Brazilian culture and entrepreneurship traditions, makes for a unique forum to learn the class topics. Weeks 3 and 4 of the program are conducted in Sao Paolo (5 days), the resort town Ubatuba (3 days), and Rio de Janeiro (4 days). This phase of the program allows students to experience first-hand lessons learned in the classroom.

How Does It Work?

  • Course material covered in 4 cities in 2 continents: Montreal, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro & Ubatuba.
  • Learning through field trips to leading companies like Bombardier, Chrysler, IBM, Just for Laughs, Mercedes Benz, LifeSavers, Embraer, Cossette and Marketel.
  • Courses start in Montreal for the first 10 days. Students from Brazil attend classes with McGill students in Montreal.
  • Classes continue in Brazil with experiential learning - presentations, group projects and field surveys.
  • Close interaction with students from the Brazilian Institution ESPM - an opportunity to learn Portuguese.
