Research Centres and Programs

Over one third of the Faculty’s professors teach and conduct research from a social or environmental perspective. The following Desautels centres and programs support research and teaching initiatives which address issues related to corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, sustainability and/or non-profit management:

  • Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies supports the McGill entrepreneurship ecosystem via year-round Dobson Cup entrepreneur competition activities:  pitch days, boot camps, speakers, mentorship, accelerator and angel funds and the competition itself. In addition, Dobson lecturers teach 19 entrepreneurship courses to over 1000 students per year and the Dobson Centre offers free advice to over 250 Montreal startups and 310 small businesses annually at no charge.
  • International Families Business Centre offers services (advice, skills development, support network) adapted to the special needs of family enterprises and the various professional advisors who support them.

  • McGill World Platform for Health & Economic Convergence combines the powerful assets of one of the world’s leading research universities with the world’s best minds, and leading organizations in health and economic domains to address the most intractable issues of health and business at their interface.

  • NSERC CREATE Program on Healthcare Operations & Information Management facilitates tangible improvements in the healthcare system across Canada via the contributions of the trainees (PhD Students and Researchers) of this program as future agents of change in academia, health sector and government.

  • Centre for Strategy Studies in Organizations disseminates the best possible research on issues central to organizations, especially the formation of strategic direction, the coordination of organizational activities, and the relationship between organizations and society.

  • Desmarais Global Finance Research Centre promotes research aimed at identifying the factors that constitute an optimal governance system.  In particular, research areas include the relation between corporate governance and corporate diversification, the role of capital markets in disciplining managers, and the role of institutional investors in corporate governance.
