Dr. Frances Anne Power obtained her DDS at the University of Toronto in 1990. She was Coordinator of Dental Care and Hospital Staff Dentist at the West Coast of James Bay, working with underserved Cree communities, and then a Family Dentist in underserved rural Ontario communities. She became a Consultant in Community Development in 1997 collaborating with national disability groups. She joined the Faculty in 2008 to liaise with the Faculty, dental students and the Montreal community to reduce disparities in oral health care access of underserved and underprivileged groups. She is the Academic Program Director of Community Clinics (aka McGill Faculty of Dentistry Mobile Clinics); Instructor and Community Liaison for Dental Public Health 3; Faculty Advisor for the McGill Interprofessional Global Health Course; Instructor for the Community Dental Education series, Dental Apprenticeship 1; Small Group Leader for Clinical Methods 1 and 2; and a SIM Centre Facilitator. She is a member of the Oral Health and Society Division, Interprofessional Community Care Rounds and the Chairperson of the Student Community Initiatives Committee.

Dr. Power was the recipient of the Dr. Ralph Silverstone Teaching Award in 2013 in recognition of outstanding contribution to the undergraduate teaching program. Recently, she has begun mentoring graduate students in the Division of Oral Health and Society to teach undergraduate dental students.

Dr. Power participated in the research of “Developing a Team to Address Oral Health Disparities in Canada” and was a member of the “CAHS: Improving Access to Oral Health Care for Vulnerable People Living in Canada” panel. The latter was chaired by Dean Paul Allison and the CAHS report was published in the September 13th 2014.
