Applicant categories

When submitting an application to the Faculty of Dentistry, the applicant category must be established under one of the following:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is a recognized resident of the Province of Québec (in-province)
  • Member of a First Nation or Inuit who is also a recognized resident of the Province of Québec (in-province)
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is not a recognized resident of Québec province, also known as out-of-province Canadians (OOPC)
  • International citizen, including citizens of the U.S.A., who do not hold Canadian citizenship or residency (US/Foreign)

Applicants who have completed a dental degree at a non-Canadian or non-American university and are Quebec residents may apply for advanced standing.

Applicants who are citizens or permanent residents of Canada living in the province of Quebec and who are enrolled in the second and final year of the Sciences Profile of the Quebec Colleges of General and Professional Education (CEGEP) are eligible to apply for the five-year program (Dent-P).

Recognized Residents of Quebec

Prospective students can apply in our in province category if they meet the following admission requirements:

  • must be a recognized resident of Québec: a member of a First Nation or Inuit who is also a recognized resident of the Province of Québec; Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is a recognized resident of the Province of Québec. A Québec resident is defined by the criteria [.pdf] set forth by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Leisure (MELS).

Note: Québec residency status must be fully established (not provisionally) by the application deadline. Thus, when reading "before the beginning of the semester" or "before the end of the semester", you should read "before the application deadline". Changes of citizenship or residency after the application deadline will not be considered.

  • must have obtained by June 30th of the entering year a Bachelor's degree in accordance with stated requirements. Applicants who have successfully obtained a diploma of college studies (Diplôme d'études collégiales) in a pre-university program can apply with a 90 credit program from a Quebec university.
  • must meet the basic science requirements.

Out of Province Canadians

Out of province residents can apply to our undergraduate dental program if they meet the following admission requirements:

  • must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is not a resident of Québec;
  • must have obtained by June 30th of the entering year, a Bachelor's degree of 120 credit;
  • must meet the basic science requirements.

Application deadline: November 1st
Interview date: March 10th, 2014

International Citizens

International residents (including citizens of the U.S.A. who do not hold Canadian citizenship or residency) can apply to our undergraduate dental program if they meet the following admission requirements:

  • must be an individual who requires a study permit to study in Canada (not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident);
  • must have obtained by June 30th of the entering year, a Bachelor's degree of 120 credit;
  • must meet the basic science requirements.

As an international student, you would need to get your immigration papers once you are accepted into the program. You would need to get the Certificate of Acceptance from Quebec (CAQ), issued by Immigration Quebec, and a Study Permit, issued by Immigration Canada. Click here for more information

Foreign Trained Dentists and Transfer applicants

Advanced Standing and Transfer positions may be considered if space is available. The deadline to apply is October 1st, but please note that the online application will ONLY be available by September 1st.
