Selection Process - Match

Graduates from CDA and ADA approved dental schools are eligible to apply. Applications are to be directed to the Faculty of Dentistry where they will be evaluated by a Selection Committee. The selection process normally takes place during November of the preceding year. Successful candidates will be required to register with the University as post-graduate students. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be issued a certificate recognizing successful completion of a Multidisciplinary Residency Program in Dentistry. Successful applicants, who are not graduates of Quebec dental schools, will apply to the Order of Dentists of Quebec for a temporary permit restricting practice to the teaching hospital involved.

Match Process

The Match Process is carried out in the Office of the Dean. Once the Site Directors of the teaching centres have had an opportunity to review the dossiers of all of the candidates, they submit to the Dean's Office a list of applicants who they wish to interview. The Dean's Office then schedules the interviews to allow those who have been selected for interview at more than one institution sufficient time to travel from one institution to the other(s). The interviews for all teaching centres are generally held on the same weekend in order to accommodate out-of-town candidates.

The Dean's Office sends a letter informing candidates who have been selected for interview of the time(s), date(s) and location of their interview(s). Those who have been selected at more than one institution will be asked to rank the institutions in order of preference. The Site Directors are not privy to this information.

Following the interview sessions, the Site Directors submit to the Dean's Office the names of the candidates they have selected by order of priority. If more than one Site Director has selected the same candidate, the candidate is offered a position at the institution of his/her choice. Once the match has been completed, short alternate lists are drawn up and those who are on the waiting list(s) are informed by letter of their position on the waiting list(s) at the institution(s). The names of the candidates who have been offered firm positions in one of the institutions will not be placed on the alternate lists. If individuals who have been offered positions do not accept by the deadline, the position will be offered to the first person on the alternate list.

A candidate who accepts a residency position is required to provide a money order or certified cheque in the amount of $3,000 in order to hold the position. This fee will be credited towards the applicant's University fees, but will not be refunded if s/he fails to register. Selected individuals must also agree to withdraw their applications for postgraduate positions at all institutions and matching programs (e.g. U.S. PASS) to which they have applied.
