Student Externships at the Faculty of Dentistry

Every summer, the Faculty of Dentistry accepts students from other dental schools as externs.  There are two externship programs.  The Summer Dental Clinic for Adolescents and Persons with Disabilities (information below) and the Externship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery .

Externship in the Summer Dental Clinic

The Experience

The McGill Summer Dental Clinic for the Disabled sees adult and adolescent patients with a wide variety of physical, intellectual and financial disabilities. The treatment options that we provide include preventive and non-surgical periodontal procedures, Operative Dentistry and Oral Surgery.  This year's clinic will be held from July 1st to July 26th, 2013.

The Summer Externship is a two-week program, during which you will be able to observe or assist students. Unfortunately, due to a space limitations there is no opportunity to work independently. Two sessions are offered: July 1-12 and July 15-26. Applicants may elect to attend both sessions.

Costs

Externs must pay for their own transportation, food and accommodations. There are no registration fees for the program itself.

It is strongly suggested that visitors from outside Canada obtain health insurance prior to arriving in the country.

Housing

Reasonably priced accommodations are available at the Student Residence, located a short walking distance from the clinic. Information about rates and availability can be found at the Residence Web Site.

The City

Montreal is famous for its exciting nightlife, so plan to spend time getting to know our city when you're not in clinic. There are plenty of websites where you can learn more about events during July. One place to start is Tourisme Montreal.

Additional Information

All externs are required to attend Orientation on the first day of clinic, July 1st 2013. This will be held at 9:00 a.m. in Room B3-126 at the Montreal General Hospital.

The language of study at McGill University is English. A working knowledge of French will also be useful.
