Published: 3 October 2012

We are pleased to announce that the winner of this year's Dr. Ralph Silverstone Teaching Award is Dr. Marie Dagenais. Dr. Dagenais graduated from Université de Montreal in 1983 and in 1988 completed her Diploma in Oral Radiology at the University of Toronto. She became a member of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 1989 and in 1988 she became an Assistant Professor at the Faculty. In 2000 she was appointed as Associate Dean (Academic Affairs), a very important role in the Faculty that she holds to this day. In 2001 she was appointed to Associate Professor. Beyond being a member of countless committees in the Faculty and the University and leading numerous projects related to the DMD curriculum, she has also been heavily involved in professional organisations outside McGill. For many years she has held important roles in the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry, including in 2005-06 being President of this Association. Similarly she has been heavily involved with the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and was that Association's President during 2008-11. She has also held a number of leadership roles in the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada, one of the most important organisations in Canadian dentistry.

This is a list of some of the countless important roles Marie has had both within the Faculty and beyond in the field of dental education in Canada and an indication of the dedication Marie has shown to the Faculty and the teaching of dentistry in Canada. She is a very worthy winner of the 2012 Dr. Ralph Silverstone Teaching Award.
