Submitting an application

How do I submit my application to the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill?

All application forms should be submitted through the McGill Online Application Website. It is important to fill out and submit your online application BEFORE sending supporting documents to avoid any problems or delays. ID numbers are usually returned to you by email after 24 to 48 hours of your application submission.

When I can I submit my application to the Degree Completion program?

The admission cycle starts on August 15th. Candidates need to submit their application by 9:00 pm on September 15th.

Is it possible to work on the application for a period of time and then submit the final version?

Once you have selected your program, you may stop at any time and return to your application by re-entering your Login ID and PIN number.

I cannot find your program listed on the program choice selection section.

Our DMD program is found under the application type of 'Undergraduate/Professional' (do not select Postgrad Med/Dent Education as this is for post-doctoral studies);

When asked about your educational background, you should select the highest level of education you have or will have achieved prior to starting your program of choice.

How much is the application fee?

The on-line application fee is $107.50 (non-refundable) which is payable by credit card when submitting your application on the web.

I have omitted to answer all the questions or have made a mistake on the application form, and I have submitted the application. What do I do now?

You may undergrad.dentistry [at] mcgill.ca (write to us) under separate cover and we will enter the corrections on the system. Please make sure to provide your McGill identification number

What is the required AFK score?

A minimum score of 75 is required. As an indication, the average score of interviewed candidates for entry in January 2018 was 84.

Do you accept transfers?

The Faculty of Dentistry does not accept applications for transfers.

 

Submitting your documents

Do I have to submit my personal statement via the Web site?

All you documents, except your transcripts and English test results, need to upload directly on your Minerva account.

Do I need to send you official transcripts?

Official copies of your transcripts must be sent directly from your institution to the address below. Candidates applying to our Degree Completion program can personally submit official or certified copies of their university academic transcripts. Those written in a language other than English or French must be accompanied by a certified translation.

When do I need to submit my documents?

The online application for the Degree Completion program must be submitted by September 15th before 9 p.m. (Montreal local). All required documents need to be received by September 16th before 11:59 p.m. (Montreal local).

What is a verifier?

A verifier is a person who can attest to the content of specific CV entries (e.g., direct supervisor in employment context) and who may be contacted within 12 months of your application deadline.

Do I need to provide a verifier for all entries on my CV?

You do need to provide a verifier for the most important entries on your CV. It is for each applicant to decide what is relevant and what is not to put on their CV.

 

Tracking an application

How do I know if all my documents have arrived?

You may check the status of your application via the Minerva website. The list of documents received by our office is updated on a regular basis. Submitting your online application before sending documents will avoid problems with supporting documents. Please make every effort to complete the online application as a first step.

What does 'Ready for Review' mean?

An indication of 'Ready for review' means that your file is complete and under review by the Admissions Committee. Your status will indicate 'Ready for Review' until a final decision is rendered.

When are final decisions provided?

Final decisions should be provided early November. Classes start early December.

How do I receive a McGill Identification number?

Once you have successfully submitted the on-line application forms (including payment), you will receive a confirmation and a nine digit McGill identification number. You will need this McGill ID number to access the Minerva system and to track your application. Please include this ID number in all correspondence with our office.

 

Miscellaneous

Does McGill give admission preference to the relatives of McGill graduates?

Admission to McGill's Faculty of Dentistry is based on the academic merit and competency-based criteria. Letters of support from alumni, friends, and family do not advantage (or disadvantage) an application. Some universities and colleges have legacy programs which give special admission consideration to relatives of graduates; McGill does not have a legacy admission program.

How can I change my mailing address?

You always have the ability to change your email and postal addresses, no matter where you are in the application process or what status you have, by going to: Minerva > Personal Menu > Addresses and Phones.
