After Applying

Making changes or cancelling your application

Any change or update to your application information must be submitted in writing to the Admissions Office. Changes in personal information such as addresses or phone numbers can only be done via your applicant portal.

An application can be cancelled via your applicant portal.

Tracking the status of your application

The status of your application can be tracked via your applicant portal.

It is strongly recommended that applicants check their application status on a regular basis, e.g. once a week, as there may be updates or additional requests required as part of the dossier review.

An indication of 'Ready for review' means that your file is complete and under review by the Admissions Committee. Your status will indicate 'Ready for Review' until a final decision is rendered.

Interview Information - Asynchronous Multiple Mini Interviews

Applicants invited for an interview will be interviewed using the multiple mini-interview (MMI) format. This year, they will be asynchronous. This means that applicants will be able to start and complete the interview on their own time anytime between 9am and 5pm on Thursday, April 18th 2024 by recording their answers. The interview will last less than an hour and must be completed in one go. Interviews must be completed before 5pm.

The interviews will be held virtually. It is your responsibility to be available for interview timeframe given. No repeat interview sessions or special accommodations will be arranged. A candidate who does not attend may have his or her application cancelled.

If you have been invited to an interview, please check your email inbox on Monday, April 15th 2024. (Please check your junk and spam folders in case they were placed there). You should receive a registration link for the interview. After you register, you will be able to take the asynchronous online MMI on Thursday, April 18th 2024.

Accommodation Policy for the Interview

If you have a disability or a medical condition that may affect your ability to undertake the multiple mini-interviews, please refer to our policy on accommodation for more guidance on how to request special accommodation. Please note that this includes colourblindness. Your request for accommodation needs to be sent to jenna.laurie [at] mcgill.ca (Ms. Jenna Laurie) from the Office of Student Accessibility & Achievement (SAA) within 3 days of receiving your invitation to initiate the process. Documentation from a healthcare professional or university disability accommodation service will be required.

What to wear for the Interview

This is an interview for admission to a professional program, so making a good first impression is important. Accordingly, we invite you to dress comfortably, but neatly.

Suggested dress code for participants: a reasonable-length skirt (no mini-skirts) or full-length trousers (no jeans) combined with a top (e.g.: a dress shirt, polo shirt, or sweater set) are considered acceptable. An informal dress with appropriate skirt length is also acceptable, or a collared shirt (such as a dress shirt or polo shirt) with dress/suit pants or trousers.  Blazers or business jackets are optional.  For all, ties are not necessary; no cargo pants, jeans, or sportswear.  No hats or baseball caps.

In short, something professional yet comfortable; where you can make a positive impression.

What you will need for the Interview

A cell phone can be on hand, only for use as a back-up device in case you have a technical problem. No other electronic devices are permitted.

Plain earphones/headphones or headsets are permitted for the virtual MMI.

A pen or pencil and several sheets of scrap paper. No other tools (e.g., calculator), notes or materials are permitted (virtual or other).

More information on what is and is not permitted during the interview is found in the Non-Disclosure Agreement (DNDA).

Final decisions

Decisions rendered by the Admissions Committee are final and not subject to appeal.

Final decisions are released by electronic mail and confirmed via your applicant portal.

Candidates applying for the Preparatory program will be notified between by end of April, mid-May whether they have been accepted, placed on the waiting list, or not accepted. Acceptance is conditional upon receipt of a Diploma of Collegial Studies.

Accepting an offer

For the first series of offers, successful applicants must respond to the offer of admission within two weeks. Candidates on the waiting list, should they receive an offer of admission, may be given a shorter period of time to respond.

If have already accepted an offer at McGill in another program, you may encounter difficulties when attempting to accept the offer via applicant portal. Please contact the undergrad.dentistry [at] mcgill.ca (Admissions Office) if you are experiencing this problem.

Notification of acceptance of the offer must be accompanied by a deposit of $500 which will be applied against tuition. This fee is non-refundable.

Deferring admission

An applicant to the DENT-P program cannot defer his/her admission.

Waitlist Post-Interview

The Admissions Office only retains only a certain number of applicants on the waiting list. Offers of admission are made when places become available.

To learn about your position on the waiting list, log on to your applicant portal. Offers of admission can be made at any time and can occur very late in the summer. However, as offers are contingent upon decisions of other applicants, it is impossible to predict if and when places will become available. Please ensure that your e-mail address and phone number are current. However, if you want your name removed from the waiting list, you must decline through your applicant portal.

Waitlist Progress - Fall 2023:

DENT-P Year: As of August 15th, 2023, an offer was made to the 32nd candidate on the list.

Please note that this website will be updated every time an offer of admission is made to a candidate on the list.
