Additional information regarding Implants and Orthodontic treatment

  • Orthodontic treatment is limited to patients requiring simple orthodontic care.
  • Implants consultations are only available for patients missing 1 or 2 posterior teeth or patients wearing a lower complete denture.

Radiographs (x-rays)

Radiographs will be taken at your first evaluation appointment. Patients who have recent radiographs should bring them to this first appointment. Digital radiographs are accepted only in DICOM format on a CD. (The name of the patient as well as the date the radiographs were taken must be included with the images if they are not in DICOM format.)

For reasons of security and patient confidentiality, we will not accept radiographs which are transmitted to us electronically.

After Acceptance for Initial Treatment

A student will call to schedule an appointment for a complete dental exam in order to prepare a comprehensive treatment plan. This includes our recommendation for the kind of treatment that is needed, the cost of treatment, and the amount of time the treatment is expected to take. After this appointment, a final decision will be made as to whether or not to continue treatment in the teaching clinic. Patients are encouraged to ask lots of questions before committing to treatment.

Who Does the Treatment?

Undergraduate dental students, who are supervised by general practice dentists and dental specialists, perform all dental treatments.

Cost of treatment and time commitment

Our patients receive high quality care at about 50 per cent the cost of a private dental office. Our fees are based on the recommendations of the Association des chirurgiens dentistes du Quebec. These are the fees used by most general practice dentists.

At our dental clinic, treatment will take longer to complete than in a private dentist’s office. Patients must be able to attend appointments once a week for up to 4 hours each visit. Treatment will normally start with a thorough cleaning and continue with fillings, crowns, bridges, partial dentures or other procedures as required.

Payment

Payment is required at each visit. We accept Cash, Interac, Visa and MasterCard. Unfortunately, the clinic is unable to accept personal cheques.

Dental Insurance

The Registration Office will complete forms for patients with private dental insurance.

Medicare and Patients receiving Social Assistance

The Government does not pay for any treatment in our clinic. Most patients who receive social assistance can obtain basic dental care in a private dental office at no cost. Patients choosing to be treated in the Undergraduate Teaching Clinic are responsible for paying the entire cost of their treatment themselves.

Cancellation Policy

Patients who cancel or miss more than two (2) appointments in a year, may be dismissed from our teaching program. If a patient needs to change or cancel an appointment, they must advise the Registration Office at least 48 hours before the appointment. Patients can leave a message any time, day or night, at (514) 934-8021.
