The McCall Undergraduate Teaching Clinic

Information for Patients

[Top of page ↑]

The McGill University Dental Clinic provides high quality care at about 50% the cost of a private office. Fees are based on the recommendations of the Association des chirurgiens dentistes du Québec. All treatment is provided by undergraduate dental students under the supervision of general dentists and specialists.

The clinic is open from September to the end of May. Patients must be able to attend appointments at least once every 2 weeks for 3-4 hours.

Treatment offered

Treatment offered by the Clinic includes: deep cleaning (debridement), gum surgery and grafts, fillings, crowns and bridges, partials and complete dentures, and root canal treatments.

Implant treatment is limited to the following two situations:

  • A single tooth implant for a missing posterior tooth (limited to 1 implant per side)
  • An implant supported complete denture for the lower jaw

For wisdom teeth (3rd molar) extractions, contact the Oral Surgery Clinic at the Montreal General Hospital at (514) 934-8397.

Patients who require only a simple cleaning should contact a dental hygiene teaching program (see reverse side).

Orthodontic Clinic (children and adults)

The McGill Dental Clinic accepts simple cases for minor bite corrections. For information and a screening appointment, call (514) 398-5189

The enclosed application form does not need to be completed for Orthodontic consultations.

Application Process

The attached application forms must be completed and returned in the self-addressed envelope. Download here

First Visit – Screening Appointment

Prior to being accepted as a patient, all applicants must undergo a screening examination to determine if their treatment needs are appropriate for a teaching clinic.  This visit will take approximately 3 hours.

Because of the high volume of applications the clinic receives, there may be a 2-5 month waiting period for this appointment.  Patients requiring root canal treatment that has been diagnosed by a dentist are accepted on a priority basis and may not need to undergo this examination.

Radiographs (X-rays)

Radiographs are normally taken at the screening appointment. If you have had radiographs taken in the past year, please indicate it on the forms. Digital radiographs can be sent to patients [dot] dentistry [at] mcgill [dot] ca (this email address).

Screening Appointment Fees*

Complete dental care $40
Complete dentures $65
Orthodontic $25

*These fees are non-refundable

We accept Interac, Visa and MasterCard. No cash payments. Unfortunately, the clinic is unable to accept personal cheques. If a treatment is completed in one visit, the payment is required the same day. If a treatment requires many visits, you will be asked to pay half of the total amount when treatment begins and the balance when it is completed.

Dental Insurance

Our Registration Office will complete forms for patients with private dental insurance.

Medicare & patients receiving social assistance

The Government does not pay for treatment in our clinic.  Most patients who receive social assistance can obtain basic dental care in a private dental office at no cost. Patients choosing to be treated in the McGill Undergraduate Teaching Clinic are responsible for paying the entire cost of their treatment themselves.

Cancellation Policy

Patients, who cancel or miss more than two (2) appointments in a year, may be dismissed from our teaching program.  If a patient needs to change or cancel an appointment, they must advise the Registration Office at least 48 hours before the appointment. Patients can leave a message any time, day or night, at 514-398-5189.
