Transfer and Advanced Standing Students



Advanced Standing and Transfer positions may be considered if space is available. The number of positions available for entry in January of the second year of the DMD program will be available on the website on August 15th of the preceding year.



Transfer Students

Students who are presently enrolled in a faculty of dentistry in Canada or the United States may be considered for entry into the second year of the D.M.D. program

Requirements

  • The applicant must be completing at least 2 years of a 4-year D.M.D./D.D.S. program or 3 years of a 5-year program by the end of the academic year,
  • The applicant must be highly ranked in their current program
  • Part 1 of the ADA National Board Examination.


Applicants with degrees from non-accredited programs

Applicants who have completed a dental degree at a non-Canadian or non-American university may apply for advanced standing.

Requirements

  • NDEB Equivalency Process
  • The last ACFD Eligibility Examination will be administered in February 2010. The NDEB Equivalency Process will replace the ACFD Eligibility Exam. The NDEB Equivalency process will commence in 2011 and consists of three Assessments, the Assessment of Fundamental Knoweledge, the Assessment of Clinical Skills and the Assessment of Clinical Judgement.

  • Part 1 of the ADA National Board Examination
  • English Language Examination (TOEFL)
    (if the primary language of instruction was not English)

Advanced standing students are not required to take the Dental Aptitude Test (DAT).

Successful applicants may be placed into the second half of the second-year class depending on space availability and the needs of the program. The number of positions available for entry in January of the second year of the DMD program will be available on the website on August 15th of the preceding year.

McGill University does not offer a qualifying program. After completion of the undergraduate program, advanced-standing students will receive a DMD degree.




All advanced-standing and transfer students must complete the Compulsory Immunization Program prior to being permitted to treat patients. Advanced-standing and transfer students will be expected to purchase a complete McGill Instrument Kit prior to beginning into the DMD Program.


Effective January 1, 2010, candidates who pass the NBDE Part I may not retake the examination
