Biography - Alyse Van Every
Indigenous Student Associate
As the Indigenous Student Associate, Alyse Van Every helps First Nations, Inuit and Métis students navigate the academic student support system by effectively guiding students to the people, resources, and services that best suit their needs.
A graduate of McGill University and a member of the Six Nations Community, Alyse is familiar with the path of the Aboriginal student and well-equipped to easily relate to advisees on an academic and personal level. Liaising with all University departments and schools, Alyse connects students with faculty members and academic advisers and also liaises with students’ home communities when appropriate.
Working closely with the Aboriginal Community Outreach Coordinator/Career Advisor and the Coordinator of the First People’s House, Alyse develops workshops and events to help Aboriginal students become familiar with McGill and overcome any obstacles they may encounter. Recent workshops include Confidence in the Classroom, wherein students learned techniques for engaging more actively and comfortably in the classroom and Mastering Exam Anxiety.
