Governance

Board

The Centre is governed by a Governing Board, which consists of the Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies or delegate, who acts as Chair, the Director, the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations) or delegate, an external member from a significant religious, political or economic institution external to the University, a graduate students' representative, and the deans of the participating faculties or delegates, preferably representing the various areas and/or religions on a rotating basis.

Members of the Governing Board:

  • Ellen B. Aitken, Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies, Chair
  • Torrance Kirby, Faculty of Religious Studies, Director
  • Rose Goldstein, Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations)
  • Richard Cumming, graduate student representative
  • Stephen Huddart, McConnell Family Foundation, external member
  • Christopher Manfredi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts
  • Hélène Perrault, Dean of the Faculty of Education
  • Daniel Jutras, Dean of the Faculty of Law

The Governing Board recommends the appointment of the Director to the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations). The Director will be appointed for a period of three (3) years (renewable once only), and is responsible for managing the daily business of the Centre, its various activities and its annual report.

The individual members, the units and the teams, which are represented by the Centre, will report annually to the Governing Board of the Centre. All members of the Governing Board have one vote each; decisions must be taken by a plurality of votes (see also Bylaws). In addition to the Governing Board, the Centre may also choose to create an Academic Board, which, however, will have no administrative or legal power.
