Mary Ellen Macdonald, PhD is a medical anthropologist. Her research program on Improving the Health of Vulnerable Populations includes two vulnerable populations with urgent health needs: Aboriginal peoples and palliative care patients and their families. Her collaborative research with Aboriginal peoples has included urban studies on mental health policy, oral health, and tuberculosis, and northern studies on HPV, cervical cancer, HIV, diabetes, maternal-child health and adolescent sexual health. Her research in palliative care has included postdoctoral training in Pediatric Palliative Care at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, a socio-cultural analysis of child death, and adult palliative care projects including in Aboriginal populations.
