Curriculum

This comprehensive online course is fully aligned with A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), 5th edition and consists of 14 online modules. Case studies, quizzes, live webinars led by McGill’s project management experts - as well as practical tips and advice provided by experienced project management professionals - complement the theory and concepts explained in the course. Downloadable templates allow you to apply your learning immediately on the job.

Your virtual mentors – McGill instructors who are seasoned project management professionals – share real-life cases and in-the-field experience through mentor video clips.

As part of this course you’ll have access to the PMP® practice exam for three months.

On successful completion of the course, you will receive an attestation from McGill’s School of Continuing Studies indicating that you have earned 35 Contact Hours of formal project management education required to be eligible to apply to take Project Management Professional (PMP)® or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® certification exams.


Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

•    Articulate the key role, responsibilities and skills required of a successful Project Manager;
•    Apply practical tools and templates that enable these principles to practice, on current and future projects;
•    Anticipate and manage some of the common situations and challenges that project managers face;
•    Meet project management educational requirements to be eligible to apply for the Project Management Professional (PMP)® or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® credentials;
•    Prepare to write the certification exam for Project Management Professional (PMP)® or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® credentials.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellation requests must be made in writing to pd.conted [at] mcgill.ca.
If your cancellation request is received prior to the first time you log into the learning interface: refund minus $100 cancellation fee will be issued.
If your cancellation request is received once you have started the course by accessing the learning interface: no refund, however participation substitution will be permitted.


FAQs

How much time do I have to complete this course?
You have 6 months from the date of registration to complete this course.

What is the duration of this course?
It will take at least 35 hours to complete this course. Since we all learn in different ways, the total study time will depend on the individual pace of each learner.
At the end of the course, you will have access to the PMP® practice exam for a period of 90 days from the day you access it for the first time.

What does the course evaluation consist of?
At the end of each module, you will be asked to complete a quiz consisting of 10 to 15 questions. There is no final exam for the course. Your final cumulative grade will be based on the results of the individual module quizzes.

What is the passing grade for this course?
You need to achieve a cumulative grade of 65 per cent in order to successfully pass this course.

What document will I receive to confirm that I completed the course?
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to download and print an Attestation of Completion from McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies indicating the number of Project Management Institute (PMI)® Contact Hours / Professional Development Units (PDUs) earned.

Do I need to get any additional material?
All course material is provided online through the learning interface, however if you are taking this course in preparation for the PMP® or CAPM® certification exams, you should obtain a copy of A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), 5th edition to support your studies.

Will I be able to print the material provided in the course?
You will be able to download and print a summary of key learning points for each module, as well as the project management templates provided in the course.

What if I need to cancel my registration?
You can cancel your registration and receive full refund any time prior to the first time you log into the learning interface. Once you have started the course by accessing the learning interface, the course fee paid can no longer be reimbursed.
