Program Description

The intensive McGill Certificate of Proficiency in French – Language and Culture is made up of five program levels that offer students elementary, intermediate and advanced courses.
Two 6-week sessions are offered per semester. Students can complete two levels with a one-week break in a single academic semester.
Please note:
The Intensive Certificate of Proficiency program is a non-credit program and courses are non-credit courses.

The program features:

  • 25 teaching hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM)
  • 2 highly qualified instructors per class
  • Various contact hours with conversation partners
  • Frequent cultural activities and interaction with native speakers

Upon completion of the last two levels of the program (Intermediate 2 and Advanced) with a minimum grade of B- (65%), students qualify for the McGill Certificate of Proficiency in French – Language and Culture.

All students accepted to intensive Certificate of Proficiency programs are required to take a Placement Test. The purpose of this test is to assess your level of language proficiency. For complete information on the test, please see the Apply section.

Please note that course CFRN 423 is recognized by the Ministère de l’immigration, de la Diversité et de l’intégration (MIDI) as a level 7 of the Quebec Scale (level B2*). It is the threshold level required by the MIDI and the CIC for any immigration application.
