IELPS Admission Requirements and Regulations

English – Intermediate 2 (Int.2) Required

If your level of English is classified as Intermediate – Level 2 according to the English Proficiency Concordance Table {.pdf}, and you satisfy the admission requirements for a program offered by Career and Professional Development, you may apply to IELPS.

For applicants whose education has taken place in a language other than English, English language ability must be demonstrated by submitting official test scores of one of the following recognized English proficiency tests: TOEFL; IELTS; MELAB; CAEL.

The equivalency is approximate and students will have to take the IELC Entrance Placement Test before they begin their studies.

  1. Students must score the equivalent of the McGill English and French Language Program’s (EFLP) Intensive English Language and Culture (IELC) Intermediate 2 in one of the recognized English Language Proficiency Tests (see chart above).
  2. Students must meet the academic requirements of the Career and Professional Development Program they wish to apply to. Please refer to this page.
  3. Students must obtain the McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English - Language and Culture within one year of their admission to IELPS.
  4. Students who do not obtain the Certificate of Proficiency in English - Language and Culture will not be permitted to continue in the second portion (Career and Professional Development) of the IELPS.
  5. The entire program, i.e. the McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English - Language and Culture and the Career and Professional Development Certificate Program, must be completed within three (3) years.
