Sustainable Development in Engineering Projects
In most organizations, adherence to the principles of sustainable development has become a top priority. However, the processes involved in applying these principles are still not clearly understood by many engineers and project managers in a range of fields and disciplines. Most recently, sustainable development has been defined as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. This course will provide engineers with a clear understanding of the principles of sustainable development and a task-related demonstration of how to integrate these principles into the planning and design of engineering projects.

By definition, sustainable development (SD) involves the environmental, economic and social well-being for today and tomorrow. The present course will allow engineers and project managers to understand this principle and will teach them how to integrate it in their project planning.
In addition, it will provide the engineers with tools to apply SD in their designs and project implementation.

Dr. Joumana Abou-Nohra is an environmental engineer specialized in water resources management, river engineering, and hydrological modelling, with over 10 years of experience. Joumana completed her graduate studies at McGill University in 2007 and, thereafter, started her career at AECOM. For over three and a half years, she worked mainly as a project manager in West Africa and Haiti on flood control (structures and modelling), water resource optimization and water-quality related projects. In 2011, Joumana joined Hatch as a senior environmental engineer, specializing in environmental impact assessment studies for industrial/mining projects. Based on her experience in multi-disciplinary projects, Joumana has acquired profound knowledge in major environmental issues, allowing her to assess and solve complex environmental and water-related problems. Joumana has published several scientific papers in peer reviewed journals, such as Environmental Pollution and the Journal of Resources, Conservation, and Recycling.

7 days prior to the start date: Refund minus $100 Cancellation fee
Within 7 days of the start date: No Refund, however suitable participation substitution will be permitted
If no notice is given prior to the start of the event(s) and you fail to attend, you will be liable for the full course fee.
