Composite Materials in the Aerospace Industry
Understanding the challenges with composite materials for the design of lighter and less expensive structures.
Date: April 16 – 17, 2014
Time: 9am-5pm
Duration: 2 days (14 hours)
Location: 688 Sherbrooke Street West
Fee: $1,095 CAD plus applicable taxes
Objectives
At the end of this workshop the participants will be able to:
- Consider the challenges of composite materials in the manufacturing, characterization and mechanical analysis of aeronautical structures.
- Identify the different types of composite materials and their applications.
- Analyze the different manufacturing processes of composite materials used in aerospace.
- Select relevant methods for the characterization of composite materials.
- Predict the mechanical behaviour of a laminate.
- Identify the certification steps for composite aircraft structures.
Topics Covered
- Types of composite materials and their applications;
- The manufacturing processes of composite materials for aircraft structures;
- The composite processing science: review existing tools for the prediction of composite manufacturing processes;
- The mechanical and physical characterization of composite materials;
- The mechanical properties of laminates and their failure modes;
- Joints and non-destructive inspection technologies;
- Stages of composite aircraft structures certification.
Who Should Attend
