Carolyn Samuel has experience teaching ESL, EFL and doing teacher training at universities both in Canada and abroad. At McGill, Carolyn teaches oral and written academic English, as well as ESL methodology. She has designed and taught courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
One of Carolyn’s interests is sound pedagogical uses of technology for supporting student learning. She has participated in McGill’s annual Teaching with Technology Fair since its inception in 2004. Carolyn also works closely with McGill’s Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) in an effort to promote sound and innovative teaching/learning practices at the university. Carolyn is actively involved in various TLS projects and is sometimes a co-instructor in their Course Design and Teaching Workshop for faculty. For several years, Carolyn could be heard on The Link (Radio Canada International) every second Thursday talking with colleague Lise Winer and host Marc Montgomery about the challenges of learning English as a second language.
Carolyn is a 2009 recipient of McGill’s Principal’s Prize for Excellence in Teaching and a 2014 recipient of the School of Continuing Studies Award for Distinguished Teaching.
