Alternatively, MS Project training can be completed on-line as a self-study option using MS Project E-learning package included with the course.

This course addresses the fundamental principles of project management, and the tools and techniques at our disposal to help achieve our goals.
These principles, largely developed and tested on engineering projects, are being successfully applied to projects of all sizes and types within the business world.
They are also fully aligned with A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK® Guide), published by the worldwide Project Management Institute (PMI).
At the end of this course students are able to:
• Formulate a project plan which will guide the project to completion, while addressing key management issues;
• Evaluate a project and its environment, assess its true status, pinpoint real issues, and implement corrective action;
• Use MS Project to prepare a clear project plan, and to communicate project progress and status;
• Understand inherent tradeoffs between time, costs, scope and resources;
• Provide insight on how project collaborative tools may be used to radically change the way project information is exchanged through the web;
• Articulate the key role, responsibilities and skills required of a successful Project Manager;
• Apply techniques for building and leading effective, self-motivating project teams;
• Prepare a risk assessment and mitigation strategy;
• Demonstrate a solid understanding of the underlying principles of project management on which the PMI® standard PMBOK® Guide is based;

• Project definition and start up;
• Planning, scheduling and estimating;
• Approval process, including testing for alternatives;
• Project information and control systems;
• Resource selection and allocation, implementation;

- This course will appear on your McGill transcript. You will be graded. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an attestation from McGill University, indicating the number of CEUs and PDUs earned.
- What are CEUs?
- CEUs are Continuing Education Units. A Continuing Education Unit is a measure of the number of hours of participation - contact and/or study - in an organized Continuing Education activity. One CEU represents ten hours of participation. Participants who successfully complete the Comprehensive Project Management course earn 16 CEUs.
- What are PDUs?
- The PDU is the measuring unit used to quantify Project Management Institute®-approved learning and professional service activities. One PDU is earned for each contact hour spent in a structured learning experience or activity relevant to project management. These PDUs may be applied by PMI® Project Management Professionals (PMP)® towards their maintenance of certification under the PMI® Continuing Certification Requirements Program (CCR). - Can I take this course without being evaluated?
- If you do not wish to be evaluated, you can fill out a Request for Non-Evaluation form at the Department prior to the second class. Your McGill transcript will show a grade of NE (Not evaluated). You will find the Request for Non-Evaluation form here. Note that students who request non-evaluation will not receive an Attestation of successful completion from McGill University, nor will they be granted CEU's.
