When Eduard B. died in 1972, his original family name, country of origin, date and place of birth wereunknown. In 2010 a single clue, his father’s first name, made it possible to solve this mystery. A 31-year search uncovered his origins in the turmoil and shifting national boundaries of Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Kazakhstan.

Paul Klee was quite an accomplished violinist, but chose painting over music for his career. His parents were musicians and they wanted Paul to follow in their footsteps, but he decided on painting, partly out of rebellion and partly because it was his preference. He was a prolific painter and made brilliant use of colours.
