Certificate in Translation - Spanish Option

The Certificate in Translation program is designed to provide students with the fundamentals of translation. The program is the equivalent of one year of full-time university study at the undergraduate-level and requires the completion of 30 credits (10 courses). Courses are offered part-time during evenings. All applicants must sit an Entrance Examination which tests their preparedness for translation studies in the languages used by the program.

Non-credit preparatory courses must be completed by students who do not successfully pass the Entrance Examination. Competence in English, French and Spanish is required of all applicants in varying degrees depending on the concentration chosen.

Certificate in Translation courses provide practical experience in the actual translation of texts in a variety of fields.

The first part of the program serves as a balanced introduction to the principles of translation through the study, careful analysis and translation of selected texts. Students build their translation competence by translating from English and/or French into Spanish.

In the final stage, students are divided according to their areas of concentration: Spanish to English, Spanish to French or French/English to Spanish.

Upon completion of the Certificate in Translation, Spanish Option, students holding a recognized undergraduate degree may continue their studies in the Graduate Diploma in Translation Program, Spanish Option. This path provides a means for qualified students to become certified translators in Spanish translation.
