Integrated English Language and Professional Studies (IELPS) will facilitate the joint application to existing programs leading to the Certificate of Proficiency in English and to one or more of the Career and Professional Development Certificates or Diplomas.
IELPS will provide you with the opportunity to perfect your use of the English language by following the Intensive English Language Program within one year and enable you to obtain the McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English. Once you have completed your English Language studies, you will immediately be able to begin taking courses leading to the Career and Professional Development Certificate or Diploma program of your choice.

Intensive English Language and Culture
The Intensive English Program prepares students for effective interaction in an English-speaking setting. The aim of the program is to help students acquire the linguistic, communicative and socio-cultural skills needed to function comfortably in English in relation to their professional, academic and social goals. Students benefit from small class sizes, and enjoy sharing a unique learning experience with classmates from around the world.
Upon successful completion of Advanced Levels A and B with a minimum grade of 65% (B-) in each, students will be eligible for the McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English - Language and Culture. The .Certificate fulfills the English language requirements for admission to the Career and Professional Development Program and for McGill University undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Undergraduate Programs
The following programs are available to students who are attending full-time studies. Eligible students may apply to the following Certificate Programs for the fall, winter or spring sessions:

Students may apply to the following Certificate Programs for the fall, winter or spring sessions, however they may be required to take the Certificate in Management in conjunction with their program of choice in order to maintain full-time status:

Admission Requirements – Undergraduate Certificate Programs
- Students must hold a CEGEP diploma (Diploma of Collegial Studies in Quebec or equivalent); OR
- Students 21 years of age and over who do not have the normal academic background for admission may be admitted as mature students.
Note:
Students between 18 and 21 who do not have a CEGEP diploma but have at least a high school leaving certificate may be accepted into a qualifying program to be determined by the Department. Formal admission to the certificate program will normally follow upon satisfactory completion of the qualifying program.
Students below 18 years of age without a CEGEP diploma (D.E.C.) will not be admitted to a certificate program nor will they be permitted to take courses.
Graduate Programs (Undergraduate Degree Required)

The following programs can be completed in four semesters:

Admission Requirements Graduate Diploma Programs
To be admitted to a 30 credit Diploma Program, applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an approved university and meet the language requirements. Some programs have additional requirements that are noted within the description of the specific program.
Applicants who have studied outside Canada are advised to request an evaluation of their degree called an “Évaluation comparative des études effectuées hors du Québec” from Québec’s Ministère de l’immigration et de Communautés culturelles”. Graduate Certificates
Any combination of two Graduate Certificates taken concurrently can be completed by International Students in three or four semesters provided they have a Bachelor of Commerce degree or equivalent as deemed by Quebec’s Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et de l’immigration (MRCI):

- Graduate Certificate in Treasury/Finance and Graduate Certificate in International Business
- Graduate Certificate in Treasury/Finance and Graduate Certificate in Operations Management
- Or any other combination of two graduate certificates from any of the disciplines
Admission Requirements Graduate Certificate Programs
To be admitted to the 15 credit Graduate Certificate Program, applicants must have a Bachelor of Commerce degree or equivalent (unless otherwise stipulated), as approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research. Students holding other degrees may follow a Qualifying Program to gain access to the Graduate Certificate Program. IELPS Admission Requirements and Regulations
English – Intermediate 2 (Int.2) Required
If your level of English is classified as Intermediate – Level 2 according to the English Proficiency Concordance Table {.pdf}, and you satisfy the admission requirements for a program offered by Career and Professional Development, you may apply to IELPS.
For applicants whose education has taken place in a language other than English, English language ability must be demonstrated by submitting official test scores of one of the following recognized English proficiency tests: TOEFL; IELTS; MELAB; CAEL.
English Proficiency Concordance Table {pdf}
The equivalency is approximate and students will have to take the IELC Entrance Placement Test before they begin their studies.
- Students must score the equivalent of the McGill English and French Language Program’s (EFLP) Intensive English Language and Culture (IELC) Intermediate 2 in one of the recognized English Language Proficiency Tests (see chart above).
- Students must meet the academic requirements of the Career and Professional Development Program they wish to apply to. Please refer to http://www.mcgill.ca/conted/acad/cms/.
- Students must obtain the McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English - Language and Culture within one year of their admission to IELPS.
- Students who do not obtain the Certificate of Proficiency in English - Language and Culture will not be permitted to continue in the second portion (Career and Professional Development) of the IELPS.
- The entire program, i.e. the McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English - Language and Culture and the Career and Professional Development Certificate Program, must be completed within three (3) years.

Candidates wishing to apply to a graduate program must have a degree (i.e. a Bachelor's degree) from an approved university that is equivalent to an undergraduate degree as approved by the Ministère des Relations avec les citoyens et de l'immigration. Programs may have additional admission requirements. Please refer to the admissions requirements specified in the program description.
The following documents must be received before the application can be processed:
- An unofficial transcript confirming degree completion and a letter from the University confirming expected date of completion (if the degree has not been granted yet). All students must make arrangements to have an official transcript confirming the awarding of a degree sent directly to the Department from their previous educational institution before their application can be considered.
- Proof of Intermediate 2 English as specified on the English Proficiency Equivalency Table.

Health Insurance - Canadian Residents
Canadian students from outside the province of Quebec should check with their own provincial Medicare office to ensure the validity of their health coverage while studying at McGill. Canadian students who have been living abroad may not be eligible for provincial health insurance coverage. To ensure adequate health insurance coverage, you may enroll in the group plan offered through International Student Services. (see www.mcgill.ca/internationalstudents).

Students will require a full time study plan in order to satisfy immigration requirements. This equivalency evaluation will be required along with an official transcript when applying for admission.
Health Insurance
By Senate regulations, all international students and their dependants are required to participate in the University’s sickness and accident plan. The McGill plan meets the Immigration Québec health insurance requirements. In order to purchase Blue Cross medical insurance, refer to the table below to determine the type of coverage and cost. Students must purchase coverage for the entire duration of their studies at McGill.

The fee must be paid in advance with your application. Students must be registered in order to maintain coverage. The period of coverage does not exceed 75 consecutive days of insurance. However, extension of coverage is provided when the student is enrolled in more than one session. Coverage is provided between sessions.
- Single refers to coverage for the student only
- One dependant refers to coverage for the student and one other dependant, such as a spouse or a child
- More than one dependant refers to coverage for the student and all of his/her dependants such as spouse and his/her children
While completing the Career and Professional Development program, you will be required to purchase insurance as follows:
