Instructor Services and Educational Technologies

Mission Statement

Instructor Services and Educational Technologies (ISET) is responsible for providing administrative and instructional support to instructors and academic units of the School of Continuing Studies.

ISET assists instructors with their administrative duties and their needs related to the use of educational technologies.

ISET supports academic units with the planning, design, production, delivery and assessment of online and computer-assisted education as well as tasks related to course administration.

ISET is also mandated to promote the adoption and the growth of hybrid and online education offerings at the School.

Mandate

The mandate of ISET includes the provision of the following services:

Services to Instructors

Administrative Services
  • Orientation
    • Production and distribution of orientation package
    • Initial training and workshops1
  • Distribution of first-day packages (language programs)
  • Loaning of computer and audio-visual equipment
  • Provision of classroom supplies
  • Printing and photocopying
  • Classroom and lab bookings
  • Verification of final grades
  • Ordering textbooks and desk copies
Instructional Services
  • Professional development workshops (instructional technologies) 2
  • Instructional technology consulting 3

Services to Academic Units

Production of online and computer-assisted courses
  • Project coordination
  • Pre-planning and project assessment
  • Instructional design
  • Course development and courseware production
    • Production of learner’s interface
    • Production of multimedia courseware
    • Coordination with McGill Services and external third party providers
    • Copyright clearance (4)
  • Implementation and evaluation
Computer and language labs
  • Booking
  • User support and surveillance
  • Maintenance
  • Liaison with software providers and licenses administration
Support Services
  • Participation in information sessions and program committee meetings
  • Exam support
    • Preparation of mid-term and rescheduled mid-term exams
    • Preparation and handling of final exam packages
    • Coordination of final exams, including final exam conflicts
    • Coordination with Office of Students with Disabilities
  • Management of communications with instructors
    • Distribution of email messages targeting group of instructors
    • Maintenance of mailing lists

 

Other Activities

  • Promotion and support of Blended Learning
  • Promotion and development of online courses and programs
  • Maintenance of the instructors’ web site
  • Representation of the School of Continuing Studies in various university committees and working groups
